David wants JakeĀ to testify against Command and in exchange he get’s immunity but Jake says that signing that is his death warrant and is about to leave when David says then I can’t protect you. Jake walks back to David and holds his arm over his back and says, ” I don’t need protection from you, Rosen. You need protection from me. Drop this case or I’ll drop it for you.” Jake leaves and David calls someone (probably Huck or Quinn) and says change of plans.
We see a guy walking down the street and realize that he is being followed so he ducks into an alley and pulls a gun. We see that Charlie is following him, and his name is Max Butler. Max worked with Jake in Syria in the late 90’s and killed six Lebanese agents together. Margot Ross, worked with Jake in southeast Asia after 9/11 and finally Simon, Jake worked under him in Europe from 2003-2007.
We see that Jake bugged David’s office and heard everything they just said. Liv wakes up to find Russell still in her bed. We learn that Liv has been shouting in her sleep in different languages about a red door and a ring. We learn that Liv can speak French, Russian, Farsi, Mandarin, Swahili and Zulu.
Liv gets a phone call and goes into the office. She’s meeting with congressman Nicholas Reed. He tells her about his sister, Jamie who hung herself when she was 15 because her math teacher, Dan Hoffman, 29 broke her heart. George Reed, the congressman’s father confessed to Hoffman’s murder 15 years ago in Delaware. Reed is in jail and is about to be executed so Liv is the congressman’s last hope.
Liz goes to vet Harmony, Mellie’s half-sister. Liz tells Mellie that she is 50 shades of angry so if she wants to be senator or president then she has to welcome Harmony into the fold.
Liv goes to see George and says that she is his attorney for the next five minutes. George says that he doesn’t need an attorney but Liv decides to go with her gut and takes his case. They are at the safe house when Quinn gets a phone call from Liv about the Reed case so Huck and Quinn have to go. Leaving Charlie there with Max, Simon and Margot.
Cyrus tells Abby that Harmony is here and because after Harmony leaves Fitz will no longer support Mellie’s run for the presidency. They are in Mellie’s office when Harmony comes in. Mellie greets her with a fake smile while Liz and Cyrus watch. Liz says hi again and then Cyrus. Harmony asks Cyrus, “How’s it going with that prostitute of yours you got mixed up with?”
“We got married. Thanks for asking.”-Cyrus
Oh, can you feel the tension in the room. Mellie then starts a tour of the White House. Abby tells Liv that Harmony is there and Liv believes that Cyrus must be loving it. “He’s like a storm chaser in a van hurling down the highway, face pressed up against the windshield, grinning wildly, waiting for everything to go to hell, wanting to be there when it does.”- Abby
“Ive been in that van.”- Liv
George’s wife was killed in a car crash and a few years later Jamie died. There was no investigation because the case was closed. Hoffman and Jamie were together for six months before he broke up with her under the bleachers. They locate 3 other victims like Jamie and Huck finds that Hoffman moved through four high schools in two states over six years. Liv has them track down Hoffman’s wife and goes to see her but learns that she died a few weeks ago from cancer.
When Charlie comes back to the safe house from going grocery shopping he see’s that Simon and Margot are dead. Max is barely alive so Charlie drops the bag and pulls a gun but not before Jake charges at him and gets him to drop it. They fight and while fighting for the gun they shoot Max. Jake beats Charlie and escapes.
Mellie asks Fitz if he will have dinner with Harmony and he says fine. David and Co. are at the safe house cleaning up the bodies. Huck says that David can leave so he does. Charlie then says that they have to kill Jake but Quinn disagrees. Huck agrees with Charlie so then they get Quinn to agree.
Liv calls Quinn and says that Lisa Hoffman is dead, pancreatic cancer and her sister Deborah is packing up her house. Huck and Quinn go to the Hoffman house and wait for Deborah to leave before going in to search for anything to clear George and implicate Lisa. Quinn finds a gun but they leave it there so they can clear George by tipping the police off so their is chain of custody on the gun.
At dinner, Harmony talks to Fitz about her soap but Mellie tries to change the subject so Harmony says that “you just don’t like to talk about something that doesn’t have anything to do with you.” Mellie finally cracks when Harmony calls Fitz, Fitz and not Mr. President. They start fighting until Fitz finally breaks it up. Harmony then leaves the table.
Charlie is where Huck is tracking Jake but the triangulation is only accurate to a couple of square blocks so they are waiting for him to move. Charlie then asks Huck, “How sad were you when Radioshack went under? Did you cry? Be honest.” Charlie can be funny sometimes.
The triangulation works and they realize that he is at Liv’s building so Quinn hangs up with Charlie and tries calling Liv but gets voicemail so they go over there. Mellie is drinking hooch. Fitz tells her that she needs to go apologize to Harmony because if not then Harmony will hurt her. Fitz says that she just needs to make her feel welcome and Mellie says, “That was your job. I am the candidate now. You were supposed to be me in there, not the sullen beleaguered leader of the free world, but the chipper first lady, quick with a distracting anecdote to dissolve the tension and flatter the visitor and…”
When Huck and Quinn get to Liv’s, Huck starts knocking and Liv answers. Quinn see’s Russell and asks who’s that? Liv then says that she will talk to them in the morning and closes the door. Jake comes out of Lois’ apartment and says that he is watching Liv and that nothing will happen to her as long as nothing happens to him.
Huck, Quinn, Charlie and David are sitting at the Lincoln memorial and have decided to drop the case because it would hurt Liv. Charlie leaves and tells them to stay alive. Quinn says that it’s over.
“You’re like the president, declaring war to save her. You’re making the wrong decision. She will not like this. That’s not how she’s built. How come nobody knows that but me?”- David
“She’s family, Rosen.”- Huck
Huck then gets up and leaves. Quinn tells David to stay safe and then follows after Huck. Harmony comes into the oval, where Fitz tells her that Mellie is jealous of her because the day that her father left to be with Harmony’s mom it opened a hole in Mellie’s heart that she has tried to fill with her ambition and drive. Fitz also says that the pain Mellie inflicts is just a way for her to hide her own. They go to see Mellie and when they get there Harmony hugs her. Then she leaves. When she does Mellie asks what he did and he says what I had to.
Fitz says that he is going to be by Mellie’s side when she wins the race, while Cyrus is eavesdropping and is dismayed to learn that. Liv goes to see George and brings Nicholas with her. She tells them that the ballistics are a match but they shouldn’t have been because the house is near the Atlantic ocean and Hoffman’s basement didn’t have air conditioning so there should be rust on it but there isn’t. She says that someone planted the gun and says that it was Nicholas. George then tells him not to say another word and then leaves.
Nicholas says that he’ll die if he turns himself in and asks Liv what he should do because he believes that he should be the one who pays for what he did but his father won’t let him. David is in his office and remembers when Jake killed James, Vanessa Chandler and Shelby Moss so he calls Huck and tells him that he will be a witness. We see Jake listening again.
Liv goes to visit George again and says that Nick needs to accept responsibility for what he did. George says that Nick is successful and helps people but Liv cuts him off and says, “Nick lives alone in a one bedroom apartment. He’s never been married. He’s never even had a significant relationship. He is his work, and he’s good at it. But that’s what he is–work. You did this so he could be free, but he isn’t. He’s been trapped his whole life in a lie you made him tell.”
Oh, Liv. You realize that you are the same as Nick, right? Well you have been in a significant relationship but the rest of it is you. Nick resigns as congressman and admits to killing Hoffman and is arrested. Liv is leaving the station when Huck says that he is here to protect her from Jake. We see David leaving the office for the night and Holly walking with him. Jake is watching and approaches them with a gun. Jake points the gun and tells David to move two steps to the left, which reveals Holly with a gun. Jake shoots Holly and gives David a handkerchief to wipe his face. Holly was B613 and was responsible for killing the other agents.
We see that Liv was listening to the whole thing with Jake and asks Huck what she tells all of her clients. Do not lie. Jake tells David that this means war and that he is coming. “We’re the good guys. But you won’t always be able to tell. That’s what it’s going to take.”- Jake
Liv is at her apartment and goes to answer the door. She see’s that it is Russell and opens the door but then she see’s her father.
