Normally, I wouldn’t write about this or about Bill Cosby but after reading the newest articles to come out and reading the comments I feel like I have no choice. Now I know what you are thinking. Obviously, I think he is guilty. That’s not necessarily true. However, the fact that so many women have came forward with the same recount is a red flag.
Now regarding the comments that I read. Some people seem to think that the women are only coming forward for his money and can’t understand why they waited so long to report it.The fact that people are so quick to judge something that they have only read about is one of humanities worst qualities. It could be true, or it could be false. The fact is that we don’t know and should reserve judgement when the truth comes out. Most survivors of rape don’t tell anyone because they are ashamed and feel like people won’t believe them even if they report it. A lot of time can go by before they can accept what happened to them and sometimes they never can.
Now I was born in the 90’s so I’m not overly familiar with a lot of Cosby’s work but he was a famous actor/comedian. Back when some of this occurred there were lots of myths about rape and they often blamed the victim and not the perpetrator. They would scrutinize the victim on what they were wearing or the fact that they flirted. Or other crazy things. There are still a lot of myths about rape today but the movement has been getting a lot of attention due to people speaking up and demanding change to laws. All of this is detrimental to the truth and people need to learn the facts.

Some other comments that I saw were based on what the women’s occupation was. What their job was shouldn’t matter. Rape is rape no matter how they earn their income. While the proof in this matter remains limited it doesn’t mean that they’re lying. People used the term innocent until proven guilty in the comments so shouldn’t the term also be applied to them? We should at least believe what they said until we can prove otherwise.
Regarding Cosby as an iconic figure, people don’t think that he could have raped anyone but people are often capable of anything. That’s one of the things that rapists count on, that people won’t believe that they could do that because they are influential and upstanding. Lastly, the fact that he is rich shouldn’t protect him from facing charges if it comes to that. Obviously, we don’t know the truth but hopefully this matter will be settled in time.
